Silverarm RPG Newsletter #5:
The Shrike Kickstarter Final Weeks, Tide World of Mani Soundtrack, Karth Interview on Panic Table, Free Mothership Adventure Download
Howdy,
Welcome back to Issue 5 of the Silverarm RPG Newsletter.
With Tide World of Mani fulfilment much closer to wrapping up, life events settling down, and The Shrike doing awesome on Kickstarter, I’ve been in a more calm place and able to catch some breathes. Which I’ve rapidly filled with getting involved in debatably too much stuff again. The loss of my short-lived tranquility is your gain. Check out some cool new updates and fresh RPG content.
Shrike Kickstarter 570% Funded! All Stretch Goals Unlocked.
So our Kickstarter for The Shrike is doing absolutely swell and I’m glad. Leo’s been working over two years on this and I think it’s going to be well worth the wait for this dark fantasy sandbox. Back it on Kickstarter here.
I also wanted to share this video on How to Sandbox from the Deficient Master.
The obvious reason I’m is because I sponsored this video and want more people to see the sweet, sweet, promotion of The Shrike in it and back it. But I’m also been enjoying the channel as a skit heavy, high energy advice channel that actually provides good ideas and gets them out there to both OSR and 5e players. I think one of the marks of quality content is the ability to take disparate influences and synthesize them into something new and fun. That’s one of the things I really dig about Leo’s work with The Shrike and think Deficient Master manages to pull from a lot of cool sources in videos with clickbait titles but meaty game advice content.
Desert Moon of Karth Interview on Panic Table
I had the pleasure of going on Mission Control, a talk show put on by The Panic Table where they interview RPG creators. It was great that they let me wear a space suit and put a cowboy hat and TV on my head. Cameron was a great host and this well edited interview let me talk about some of my process and influences in writing Desert Moon of Karth.
Also if you don’t know The Panic Table is a Mothership actual play with a great cast and Warden that shoots in production studio. I’m picky with actual plays and find it hard to hit that sweet spot between high production but overly scripted without the magic player agency and unpredictability I dig in RPG’s and a freeform but four hour audio of a bunch of friends going on pop culture tangents in their basement with awful mics. The Panic Table walks that line by having amazing production and actors while capturing the improv, unpredictability, and meaningful player choice that makes playinh RPG’s special. Stick with the it past the more scripted first couple setting and character intro episodes (which are still good) and it really starts to hit its stride when they turn the players loose.
Tide World of Mani Soundtrack Out
I really dig how this one turned out. It’s all jams and Eric did a great job.
I’d be interested in what your ideal use case is for a module OST when you’re listening to it at or away from the table? I uploaded the album to Spotify for more accessibility and ease of use in game. I’m planning on doing the same for all the other Silverarm soundtracks too. It’s also available as an MP3 album on the DriveThruRPG files for Tide World of Mani.
Circle The Flame: Free for the Next Week
I just released this brochure adventure for Mothership. If you want the physical brochure copy, you’ll be able to pick it up from several fine retailers and already incoming to backers of some Tide World of Mani tiers. I decided to make the PDF free for the next 7 days to get more eyeballs on it and as a little treat to you for subscribing to my newsletter. Pick it up here! The premise:
Tinea Weather Station was commissioned to observe and study the unpredictable weather patterns of the tidally locked water world of Mani. Earlier today, for unknown reasons, its orbit began to rapidly decay. Once you arrive, you'll have about 3 hours before the station burns up in the tempestuous atmosphere. Your mission is to extract whatever assets you can. Sharpe Co. is willing to pay well.
The chimpanzee is highly trained and is your priority for extraction.
1. Extract the chimp alive and
intact. 160 kcr. Forgiveness of all Sharpe Co. debts
2. Extract weather data from
the servers. 70 kcr
3. Extract Dr. Lars Antal. 20 kcr
Blog Post: 2d6 Downtime Activities
I got some time to do another post and talked about taking the excellent 2d6 based Downtime System from Downtime in Zyan and tweaking it a little to fit with my Worlds Without Number game. (You should steal the system for whatever ruleset you’re running though, it’s great.)

I know what you mean about actually plays. Difficult to find good ones that you actually want to commit time to. Have you see the British one, Mystery Quest. Definitely a favourite of mine!
You know I'm voting for that NASA adventure module review!
